A vibrant, fruit-forward natural from the pioneering Hacienda Sonora estate, nestled at the foot of the Poás Volcano in Costa Rica’s Central Valley. This standout lot showcases the Centroamericano (H1) varietal — prized for its high yields, rust resistance, and complex, fruit-laden cup. Expect ripe red fruits, tropical sweetness, and a creamy, syrupy finish.
Hacienda Sonora has been in the Guardia family for over a century. Since the 1970s, under the leadership of Alberto Guardia, the estate transitioned from a traditional farm into a specialty coffee. In 1999, responding to historically low coffee prices, Alberto built an on-site mill to gain full control over quality and experiment with alternative processing methods. This bold move positioned Sonora at the forefront of Costa Rica’s specialty movement.
Today, Alberto’s son Diego co-manages the farm, which spans 80 hectares of coffee and 20 hectares of preserved forest. With over 20 different coffee varieties under cultivation and a strong focus on sustainability, Sonora is known for its innovation, environmental stewardship, and warm hospitality.
This Centroamericano lot is carefully hand-picked, slow-dried in cherry on raised beds and black tarps, and finished with gentle mechanical drying — ensuring clarity, consistency, and character in every cup.
