This coffee comes from the Karimikui Factory, one of the washing stations operated by the Rungeto Farmers’ Cooperative Society in Kirinyaga County, on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya. Rungeto works with over 500 smallholder producers farming small plots in a densely populated, tea-growing region known for its fertile soils and cool climate.
Cherries are selectively hand-picked and delivered to the factory the same day, where they are processed using a traditional washed method. Pulping and fermentation take place on site, followed by thorough washing using water sourced from the nearby Karimikui River. The factory employs water recirculation systems and soak pits to support more responsible water use.
Rungeto supports its members through regular farm visits and agronomy training, with a focus on best-practice farming and consistency across the cooperative. The resulting coffee reflects the structure and clarity that Kirinyaga is known for, with a clean cup profile and a refined, balanced finish.
